Kitchen Sink Buying Basic Tips

By Chester Donahue

A kitchen sink will be the most useful addition to your home. A kitchen sink should be catered to the needs of your family. Even if you use a dishwasher, your kitchen sink will likely house most of your dishes before loading it into the washer. Think of how your family uses your current kitchen sink. If you live by yourself or with one other person, there will most likely not be many dishes used, therefore no need for a large sink. On the contrary, if you live in a large household, dishes will pile up fast, even if you wash them after every meal.

While shopping for a kitchen sink, it is important to keep you and your family's dishwashing needs in mind. Keep in mindthe answers to the following questions as you determine the best sink for your home. How large is your family? What are the dishwashing habits of your family? Are you the only one that washes the dishes, or does everyone wash their own dishes? Do you use your kitchen sink for washing things besides dishes, such as paintbrushes or filling up water balloons? Do you use large pots and pans? The answers to these questions will help you in selecting the perfect sink.

Small vs. Large

A small family, or a large family? A small family will call for a smaller sink, depending on the amount of dishes that you use. However, if you are a small family that likes to throw parties or use the sink for cleaning things other than dishes, you may want to consider purchasing a larger kitchen sink for the times that you need the extra room. No one wants to be stuck with dirty dishes sitting on the counter, waiting to jump into the sink. A larger family will need a bigger sink, especially if the dishes pile up often. Even if each dish is cleaned immediately as it is put in, a large family most likely uses large pots and pans to cook their meals.

You may also want to take into consideration where you will place your sink. If you are remodeling your entire kitchen, this decision may not be as difficult to make, since you can adapt your plans to fit your sink. However, if you are only replacing a few items, or just the sink, make sure that you have room to install your new sink! If your family is growing in size and you are purchasing a larger sink, you may have to sacrifice countertop space. Make sure that you measure the area of your current sink, and decide if there is room in your kitchen to put a bigger sink. When considering the size of your sink, observe the habits your family for a week. Make sure that you take into consideration how your family cleans up after parties!
