Popular Wedding Ring Styles Reviewed

By Mark Walters

There are lots of different styles of wedding ring but it is certainly safe to say that some are more popular than others. We've put together this guide to popular styles of wedding rings to give you a better idea about some of the best-loved options. When it comes to the metal the wedding ring is made out of, the most traditional option is gold. Typically this will be yellow gold, but white gold is increasingly popular so it's worth checking them both out.

You aren't just limited to gold wedding rings, though. For an alternative modern option, then you could check out titanium rings. These are great for rings that are meant to last a lifetime as they are extremely durable. Their lovely silver-grey color is also very appealing for a wedding ring. Another popular metal option is platinum. This is often more expensive than gold rings as it is a rarer metal, but it's gorgeous shiny silver color more than makes up for the price difference.

The shape of the ring is also an important feature and many people like to choose one that fits over the gem on their engagement ring. A lot of engagement rings that have precious stones such as diamonds in them jut out over the top of the band. This means that the wedding ring then has to be specially cut to go over it so it will be comfortable to wear. You can either get a jeweler to adapt the ring for you or choose a matching engagement/wedding ring set.

Another extremely popular wedding ring choice, alongside the option of having it cut around your engagement ring, is a simple, plain band. One option here is to choose a similar style to the one your future husband will wear. There are a few variations available here to cater for different preferences, but one of the most popular choices is a curved wedding band that reflects the light and has a nice feel to it, with a straight edge so it can be worn comfortably.

Traditionally, wedding rings tend to just be a simple metal band but increasingly people are choosing to have more unusual options - especially those women who choose not to have an engagement ring as well. This means that wedding rings with diamonds and other jewels set into the band are also very popular. These jewels tend to be small and designed to make the band sparkle discreetly, but you can also find ones with bigger diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and more if you prefer.
