Preserving Memories With A Unity Sand Frame

By Janice Maples

Sand ceremonies are an increasingly popular element of wedding celebrations and allow couples to complement customary vows with unique symbolism. A unity sand frame serves as a potent symbol of love, and is a beautiful wedding day keepsake. Every couple can record their special stories of love with these novel and romantic picture frames.

Unity ceremonies are not new, but have recently gained popularity after featuring in celebrity weddings. Sand ceremonies appeal to couples because they are able to infuse them with very personal meaning. The wedding day can gain a degree of exclusivity and promises to be memorable for all in attendance. Couples celebrate their union by pouring sand from individual containers into one symbolic vessel. This symbolic act represents two separate lives flowing together into one inseparable life.

Planning a wedding involves making many complex choices. When planning a unity ceremony, couples need to think carefully about what they mean to each other and how they envisage life as a married couple. However, a couple cannot focus solely upon the romantic elements of their wedding day. If the wedding day is to be a success there are practical considerations that need planning also.

Retailers of wedding supplies now sell sand in a variety of colors for the purposes of such ceremonies. Couples choose those colors which carry personal meaning for them and which symbolize aspects of their relationship. They may choose to use only two colors or a broad palette of colors. The colors chosen will ultimately reflect a couple's hopes and aspirations for married life.

Some thought must be given to details, such as the pouring vessels, if the marriage service is to proceed without a hitch. The vessels must exclude moisture as this can cause grains to clump together. The act of pouring should be a seamless flow from one container to the next. Some couples elect to fill a simple glass vase which is then displayed as symbol of the marriage. However, a frame allows newly-weds to record a more detailed and individual account of their marriage.

Adding photographs is the obvious way to personalize the frame. Pictures of the couple when they first met, or the day of the marriage proposal are both popular choices. Small items such as seashells or birthstones may be added to create a collage. Some couples prefer to have the frame engraved with a simple inscription. Other favorite ideas include enclosing love letters, wedding invitations or hand written blessings.

A unity sand frame is a great way to capture the moment and create lasting memories. They need not be confined to weddings, but can be adapted to celebrate anniversaries, births and other landmark events in family life.
