Arranging an Alternative Wedding on a Budget

By Edina Stone

If engraved cream heavy cardstock invitations with raised calligraphed lettering or a wedding cake in the shape of a Tiffany's box are things that get your pulse racing, you're probably not the sort of bride that will dig my suggestions. Not that there is anything wrong with those things at all, but I'm hoping to pass on some tips, tricks and advice to the more "out of the box" brides who like to mix things up a bit.

Anything goes for the modern bride when it comes to choosing a wedding dress. A nontraditional wedding dress has become a choice that's more popular than ever, especially among Hollywood's blushing brides. So don't feel stuck with your mom's plain white dress: If you're a daring bride with a funky sense of style, you can celebrate your individuality on your wedding day.

If you even choose to have bridesmaids, let them pick out their own dresses. This will not only save them some money, it will ensure that the dress they pick flatters their own body type. Everyone is happy! Even better, they really will be able to wear it again.

If you don't like being the center of attention, than you will probably dread opening up all your presents in front of a room full of people at your bridal shower. People will probably buy you presents regardless, so if you can, skip the bridal shower all together.

Pick one or more non-traditional wedding ideas and work them into different aspects of your wedding. You will end up with a truly unusual day that all your guests will remember. Most importantly, it will be uniquely yours.
