Making Changes To Your Office Interior

By Nathan Wolpind

As humans spend majority of their time working in an office, it is essential to keep the work environment as conducive as possible. That includes making some design adjustments to make it as comfortable as possible.

Prior to making any changes in your office design, you will need to check on the policies your company has in terms of decorating your office or work space. There are some companies that do not allow putting pictures or art work or even moving the furniture. Other employers are more lax and let employees exercise their creativity through altering the look of their work space. This is especially evident in offices that employ artists and writers where they need to exercise their creative freedom and putting restrictions can affect their output. Make sure that any changes you make are in accordance with the companies' rules.

Once confirmed, prepare a plan which considers the best composition that will increase your productivity but still remain aesthetically pleasing. Decide on where you want to put your work desk and how to situate the computer screen so that it doesn't catch the sun's glare. Device a way to keep electrical cords hidden from view as these can be an eye sore and even cause accidents. The furniture should be set in way that makes it comfortable for you, your co-workers and guests as well. Storage items such as filing cabinets and drawers should be kept at a distance from where you will be receiving visitors.

When the physical layout is done, you can proceed to adding color and other design elements. Choose a shade that can create a soothing effect and work within that hue. Keep patterns simple to maintain a professional look. Flowers, whether fresh or dried add a nice lively touch. Decorative curtains or blinds can control the amount of natural light coming into the room. Put pictures of your family on your desk or on a shelf or drawer top. Hang paintings or you can even frame your childrens artwork and keep them on your walls. You can even have a cork board so that you can update the collection of their work. If you still have space, have a wall or shelf of fame. Hang plaques and certificates you have received that are related to your job. Display trophies that can keep you motivated whenever you see them. Remember that less is more. Minimize clutter through storage. This is not only a good way to keep your office neat and tidy, but it also is a safety precaution to avoid fire hazards.

Maintaining a healthy and fun work environment includes keeping employees happy and comfortable in their place of employment. It is vital to keeping workers from leaving while at the same time increasing efficiency in the workplace.
