A Brief Wedding Planning Guide

By Adriana Noton

It can be useful to consult a wedding planning guide when you are trying to organize a wedding. After the joy of becoming engaged you may suddenly feel overwhelmed at all the things that you need to think of for your big day. Unless you are lucky enough to be able to hire a planner you will be doing most of the work yourself. You can make your wedding simple and elegant or very grand according to your taste and budget.

It is very important to find out sooner or later what your state requires you to do in order to obtain a marriage license. Some states require a waiting period between obtaining the license and getting married and you may need to have the ceremony by a certain date. You will have to pay a fee for your license and provide some identification. The fee and ID requirements vary from state to state.

It is a good idea to book your chosen venue as early as possible to avoid it getting booked up at busy periods. You could choose to have a religious service followed by a reception or you may opt for a non religious service and reception all in the same venue. Many different types of places can be used as venues subject to state laws.

Once you have decided on a venue you should consult with them on the best day for your wedding. Summer weddings are popular but as a result the prices tend to be much higher. You can have an equally nice day at other times of the year but if the weather might not be great where you are you will need to plan accordingly for the other aspects of your wedding, for example, clothing, transport and photos.

You will then need to decide whether you have a formal sit down meal or a less formal buffet. You could provide an open bar for your guests but if your budget will not allow for this you can offer to buy a certain amount of drinks with the guests topping up for themselves after that.

Do not forget to start looking for a dress early on. There are several ways to go depending on your budget, including a custom made dress, buying one in shop and having it altered or if your budget is smaller many nice dresses can now be bought online. You will need to consider the weather and any accessories you wish to wear.

Once you have a dress you can fit the rest of the wedding parties clothing around what you are wearing. Most people choose to coordinate the bridesmaids dresses with the brides. It is not uncommon for the men in the party to wear a little of the main color of the brides or bridesmaids dresses.

Providing you have followed the wedding planning guide there should not be too much left to organize. Try to arrange the smaller things with plenty of time to spare and remember to book your honeymoon.
