How to change a split drainpipe line

By Patricia King

When you bought or built your new home, the farthest thought from your mind must have been the news of a broken sewer line. You put this thought so far back in your mind hoping that it doesn't happen to you.

You may think that this is a very daunting idea, but there is a better way. A professional, licensed and experience plumbing company headed by a Master Plumber can replace your sewer lines the non-invasive way.

One of the newest discoveries in the plumbing industry that is now starting to gain popularity is called the No Trench Line Replacement. This system is used to replace an existing sewer line without ever digging up your yard, which means no cutting down trees and uprooting landscaped plants, smashing pavements and driveways, noisy drilling, and ugly holes.

A special pneumatic device will be used to put in new pipes and burst the old sewer line. How do they do this? Here is how the system works:

First off, two plumbers will dig two holes, one in the alley, the other at the sewer lines exit in your home. The pneumatic device is installed with a steel cable which will be used to snake through your old sewer system. This device has a hardened head with blades that will burst or break the pipes that are on its way. The bullet will be used to remove your clay tiles pipes or your steel pipes and replace them with new ones.

Then the new polyethylene pipe line is attached to the back of the bullet. At the access hole in the alley, a hydraulic system pulls the cable with bullet and new pipes through the hole, and as it is pulled through, blades on the bullet burst the old and damaged pipes to make way for the new pipes. The new sewer line is pulled through the exit hole wherein the new connections are made for the major line. The Master Plumber inspects the work, and if everything is in order, the holes are then filled in.

There are so many advantages to the No Trench Sewer Line Replacement. First, it is faster and less costly. If you choose to use the typical dig and fill system, the replacement normally takes two days. Aside from that, there are additional expenses incurred for replanting the yard, repairing your pavements or driveways, replacing your fences, and fixing the sidewalks.

With the trenchless system, none of these would have to be done. The entire sewer line replacement process only needs two holes for access, and then the pneumatic device does the huge part of the project. The plumbing crew can be done within 8 hours. Your yard lays intact and free from damage, you spend less, and you have less headache. The value of this new plumbing system is truly more than its worth.
