Backyard Chicken Houses Can Come In All Shapes And Sizes

By Mercy Pierson

Truly good chicken houses serve many purposes. Not only for keeping them safe but also for nesting and roosting. Chickens are food for anything and everything. Critters of all kinds will happily take advantage of the unprotected poultry.

The first issue with any construction project is location. Finding a place that suits the needs best will take a little effort. Location can be the key to safe and happy birds. Cold winds and rain should also be taken into consideration when choosing a spot for the hen house.

With a location having been chosen, the next big thing to take care of is design. Serving as just a functional coop or egg collection building is one option. Another favorite design mentality is to go for something charming and stylish. The basic living functions will still be covered regardless of the approach.

The size of the building for housing any kind of animal is also a prime issue to consider. Animals of all kinds need their living space for health and happiness. Being safe and protected will keep them that way.

A larger flock of birds will require more necessities as well. Necessities such as the nest box for laying eggs in and egg collection are important. Another key issue is the roost area. Birds need to perch upon a raised surface to safely rest above predators in the wild. Indoors this can be simulated with ease. A ladder like area will help make a happy and well rested flock.

Feed and water supply is the final peg in the puzzle. With a proper number of feeders and water dispensers the project will be completed. A good ramp and door, that latches, will allow for cooping them in safely for the night. Keep the vermin out in a good home for any flock and enjoy the benefits of poultry.
