Beautiful And Surprisingly Affordable Pine Furniture

By Alex Parks

Wood is the final word in durability and beauty in fine home furnishings. Craftsmen over the centuries have developed styles, finishes that are considered timeless and even now grace homes all over the world. Pine furniture is beautiful, durable and often overlooked in favor of the more expensive exotic wood furnishings.

Early furniture artisans were very practical, and the reason for this versatile common wood's popularity was that it was easy to obtain and looked beautiful with a minimum of finishing. It is true this common wood is still used for rustic type cabins and retreats it is more frequently finding its way into elegant dining rooms and formal parlors as well as the nursery. Lacquered, oiled, sanded, painted or distressed this common wood makes beautiful and durable furniture that comes in a surprising range of styles.

The more expensive oak, teak, mahogany, and cherry woods are popular and have some excellent points but are also expensive. Unfortunately these exotic woods are priced beyond many budgets. On the other hand, the common wood is still very affordable and far more durable than pressed woods or fiber-board.

Light wood can take almost any color paint or stain and that gives it a wide range of colors and finishes possible. A distressed finish might be used on a Pine storage cabinet while a smooth light finish might be perfect for the nursery or guest room dresser. Although the gorgeous grain in this wood makes it great for staining, it takes any color paint just as well.

Although plastic was the rage for a few decades decorators are returning to traditional wood even when working with a tight budget. Some manufacturers produce affordable wood veneer furnishings. However, veneer furnishings do not have the durability of fine wood and normally the savings is not enough to justify settling for less for most decorators.

Wood furnishing fits into almost any home decor scheme whether it is minimalistic or rustic. Natural wood grains or light colored furnishings are beautiful accent pieces to accent any room they grace. Pine furnishings can be found in the baby's nursery, the formal dining room, the kitchen and of course the back garden.

Pine furniture can surprise even the traditionalist with its versatility in styling and finishes. Before choosing veneer furnishings, the smart decorator takes a second look at this common wood. While budgets are important these days, so is durability and style which makes this light wood an excellent choice.
