How to Make the Right Palladium Wedding Bands Choices

By Octavia Butterworth

Men liked to be pampered just as much as women. Although the groom may not care for a pedicure or even a manicure there are several other ways to pamper the groom before the big day. Planning a wedding, causes a lot of stress, a nice relaxing massage a day or so before the wedding, will work wonders for all those tense muscles. Foot messages are rejuvenating and very relaxing as is a cranial sacral (head massage), to clear the mind and relax the body.

Since the early 1900's, gold has been available in alternative colors to the traditional yellow. Platinum became a favorite for many of the elite so a white version of gold was introduced. You can also get rose gold although this has never been popular for wedding jewelry. White gold is formed by alloying yellow gold with platinum, palladium and/or silver. This produces a dull white which, when polished resembles platinum. Because platinum and palladium are rare and expensive metals, the cost of white gold can be considerably higher than yellow gold - it is however far more durable.

Other metals used in wedding rings include silver, platinum, palladium and stainless steel. Silver has always been considered the cheap cousin to gold so a silver wedding ring was said to be a 'cheap' ring often reflecting the state of the wedding itself. There is no doubt that the silver white finish that silver provides is popular - this is why white gold and platinum have become popular. Platinum is popular amongst the well-to-do. It is considerably more expensive than gold or silver and considerably tougher when it comes to durability. In fact, platinum in its pure state is the opposite to pure gold. Where one is very soft, the other is extremely hard and difficult to form into jewelry pieces. Like gold, platinum is mixed with other metals, this time to soften it and make it a little more malleable.

For other couples, either one partner may be an artisan or jeweler, or perhaps they are friends with one. In such cases, inexpensive rings can be handmade and unique to the couple getting married. As long as they are not allergic to the metals being used, many alloys can be used and then possibly plated in silver or a lower karat weight of gold to save on the costs. When the couple knows the artist who agrees to provide rings as the wedding gift, some also have special stones, such as turquoise, or other items commonly found in art stores, inlaid into the metal for a personal touch.

Are there religious considerations? Some religions have certain traditions when it comes to wedding bands. For instance, in Judaism, you would not get a ring with stones in it (the idea is that you can more easily know its value). Do you want some sort of symbol? Some people may get a symbol or saying in their rings. Some people like more traditional rings while others opt for the unusual. You might want to go to the store and browse through the rings to see what you like best. You will want to try them on to see what sizes work for you. You might like wearing big rings or you might prefer something small. Consider the above points when making your decision.
