The Truth About Mind Over Matter

By Pat McKinn

Physical perception has led to the general belief that the will or the mind is assertive enough to overpower the urges of the body. The phrase in today's literature refers to, the exact opposite of the expected reaction to a stimulus. We can give examples of touching scalding water, experiencing extreme physical pain without flinching or a mother wildebeest fighting a lion to save her calf.

The phrase initially was coined by Sir Charles Lyell, when referring to the evolution of species with respect to an improving mental faculty in animals from basic hormonal urges to intricate reasoning. It was later made popular by Mao Tsetung when stirring up the Chinese peasantry to convert from feudalism to socialism.

The phrase has even been proved scientifically by Prof. Moddel of the Colorado University. He had trained a beam of light on a glass slide and asked his subjects to concentrate on 'wanting' the amount of light reflected, to be increased. The experiment showed a 0.005% increase in the amount of light reflected.

To train our mind to overpower matter, we must reinforce our mind to prevent it being distracted. We have to work up towards a stronger will power and finally increase endurance to pain; all of this though meditation. Or, we can force our mind to think of only one thing or object for extended periods of time against our wishes if required. The biggest success is being achieved when one is able to move physical objects simply by forceful want.

The human mind is extremely strong and one of the most amazing, yet frightening possibilities that have been put forward by the psychics is that human beings, through their minds, might be able to wield a definite force on the corporeal world. And this will be done, simply with the influence of conscious purpose; or unconscious purpose, or; sometimes, through the help of spiritual aptitude; or by the result of an inexplicable theory known as synchronicity.

The occurrence, through which a person is able to physically move an object, is called 'Psychokinesis'. He is able to do this simply by wishing it to happen. And it is controlled just by the person's thoughts. This shows the immense power the human mind possesses.

Previously, all this was assumed to be the acts of the supernatural like the spirits. This was before any sort of research was undertaken on this. But later on, people started studying these phenomena, and the involvement of the human mind in these occurrences was proved. Thus, what was first called 'telekinesis' was later named 'Psychokinesis'. It can be divided into 'micro Psychokinesis' and 'macro Psychokinesis'.

We should not assume that these phenomena are only related to the mystic world, or the clairvoyant. It has its roots in philosophy, development of the personality and spirituality. When we talk about 'mind over matter', we cannot help but mention two other similar topics. One is 'responsibility assumption'. Here, every human being takes the responsibility for his or her fate and future, and feels that what happens in his or her life, is simply a consequence of his or her mind and actions. The second concept is the law of attraction.

Thus we can safely say that the human mind is a very fundamental force and if tapped or utilized in the correct way, it can control anything, whether physical or otherwise. We just need to concentrate, connect to our mind's eye, and take control of our own emotions, and we will definitely realize the power and the potential of our mind over matter.
