Trapper Hats Back In Trend

By Alexander Gabriel

Not so long ago, trapper hats had become seriously unpopular as we related them with something which our parents and grandparents used to put on. We didn't like those big fluffy hats that covered our faces and made us look like strange Eskimos. Also referred to as bomber hats, these awkward accessories have once more become famous as wintertime got a bit harsher and people today began noticing the numerous benefits of donning them.

They are usually made out of thick materials and are often covered with fur to provide an extra bit of warmth and softness. They also offer full protection for the ears, something a regular hat or a beanie cannot usually do. These hats come in many color variations, but most adults prefer the single colored versions (grey, black or brown are very popular). Traditionally they were worn by men, and this can also be derived from the fact that they have a certain roughness and masculinity to them.

Both women's and men's trapper hats have ear and chin flaps that can be used in winter, but they can also be altered so that they become fitted for various winter conditions. On warmer times, the flaps can be tied up on the hat, usually with a leather or cotton lace.

If you are about to purchase this type of hat, you should make sure that you are buying a quality product that will last several years, without fraying or ripping. Another aspect you might want to look out for is finding a hat that is made out of water resistant materials.

Since it is very likely that you will wear the hat during cold weather and it might rain or snow, the last thing you want is a big wet fur hat. This means that the hat you will purchase will most likely have to have a leather exterior and fur linings to keep the head warm.
