Choosing running socks

By Vince Samios

There are lots of different companies that make running socks for you to choose from. There are also different types of running socks that you can select from. Each type of sock claims to have a different benefit to the runner. So the choice is really up to you and you need to choose the type of sock that offers you the most benefit.

Running socks comes in all sorts of sizes and all sorts of lengths. You can choose from a knee high type running sock all the way down to what some call a shorty running sock that just comes to the ankle and the top of the running shoe. You can of course go with the classic crew length sock, but usually runners tend to stick with the shortest sock possible. Most runners feel this is the most comfortable type of sock for a good run.

The different kinds of running socks promote various benefits for the runner that chooses them. Some runners want to have extra padding in their running sock. Other runners prefer a material that claims to wick moisture away from the skin. In either case different runners will prefer different benefits and often you can't get one sock with both of the benefits identified above.

It is a known fact that the fancy socks cost quite a bit more. People that are serious about the sport of running don't seem to mind paying a great deal more for there socks. Runners seem to have no problem paying more for a sock that claims to help performance. Spending high dollar amounts on a few pairs of socks is nothing for a sport you have a passion for.

Most average runners will just wear a regular socks when they run. Still others will run in socks that aren't even branded by one of the great sports companies. If you are just a regular runner and not a competitive runner then you will probably just choose regular old sock.
