Make A Green Quilt to Remember

By Jane Green

I was pondering the quilts that I had crafted over the years. I tried to remember as many as I could. I went over all my quilts whether it was patchwork, themed or patterned, I tried to recall how many green ones I had made... And to my surprise, I wasn't able to remember making even one green quilt.

After coming to this realisation, I could find no good reason for not having one. I then became determined to start one. I sat down with my sketchbook and recorded a couple of ideas for my green quilt.

Here's just a couple of the ideas I came up with:

Link Theme

I have got a nephew who is very into his Nintendo Wii. One of the numerous games I have seen him play is a game called Zelda : Twilight Princess. The main personality of this game is a little guy called Link.

He dresses generally in green, with a touch of brown. The graphics on this game were mostly low level, with smooth edges and not a lot of detail. Making a quilt with Link in one of the forest theme levels would be quite simple and would mainly feature a green design.

On top of this, my nephew would be thrilled to bits with a blanket like this.

A Vine Blanket

Taking a rather more nature themed approach, I came across the idea of using vines to make up the pattern of a quilt. You may have them criss-cross or just grow in random directions across the quilt, to fill out the pattern.

Once you have decided the way the vines will go, add some leaves to all of the vines to add some texture to your green quilt. It actually works out to a great free form design.

Now I am not going to tell you which concept I ended up going with, but I know that I'm going to eventually use every one of them, as I like them all!
